Gus has a new blue stocking cap today. It looks like it was hand knit with lots of love, not sure who it is from but it fits his little head wonderfully!
We arrived at the NICU today just as they were doing some adjusting and testing. First they had to draw a little blood from his foot:
Then Jill held his head and arm as they tied a cloth around his foot:
After that I was able to hold his hand for a while. He is so alert and responsive. If I gave a little squeeze, he squeezed back!
Jill and I got to hold his hand together:
Jill's mother Susie was with us today too. She is really in love with Gus as only a Grandmother can be.
And here are two pictures that just show how wonderful and perfectly made Gus is. His mouth and face, eyes and feet... Awesome!
Gus is now off the morphine drip and is breathing standard room air (yeah!) They removed one of his umbilical tubes and will remove the other in a few days. He will then have a PIC line for feeding and should begin to gain weight. Gus has lost a few ounces as the nursing staff had told us he would. He is down to 1 lb 6.5 oz but should start gaining it back soon. We really feel the power of so many peoples' prayer, along with so much love and "positive energy" - and know that Gus is doing well as a result!
Thank you also for the contributions to the March of Dimes WalkAmerica "Team Gus" walkathon and the BandingTogether fundraiser (links to the right.) These are great causes that directly affect Gus right now and future preemies like him.
Many Blessings,
Gregg, Jill and Gus

Gus - There is a group of people who knit hats for premies. Ask your mom to check with JJ Lawlis about this. Barb
we love you so much.
aunt mary elsa, uncle skip, and brownie.
Gregg!
I so love seeing his progress! I check every day!
I just registered for WalkAmerica and I have four people from UTS joining me, not to mention quite a response from this community offering sponsorship! I just got a pledge for $25 within five minutes of completing the registration!
That little man has won my heart!
By the way, I still have Max's hat from when he was there and you are so right about the love involved in the creation of those little things.
Blessings,
Kim Horton - UTS
Congratulations, Gregg and Jill! Gus certainly is a miracle baby, and he is in good hands at MVH-NICU. My twins were there for 4 weeks, almost 9 years ago, and they got excellent care. It is a stressful place to be at times, but just know that this phase of his care is extremely important, and that he is in the hands of the experts in preemie care. I will call you soon, and pick a time to come visit you and Gus. God Bless You! Patty Ward (Cheryl's sister)
