Famous Magni (Magnusses?)

Some people (including my MOM!) have commented that Magnus is sort of a funny name. It's origins are Nordic - Norwegian, Swedish, Icelandic, etc, and is a derivative of the Latin "Augustus" meaning great or strong one.

Some of my favorite athletes are named Magnus too! I love pro bicycle racing and one of the recent promising stars has been a Swede named Magnus
Backstedt. He is a great sprinter, winner of the 2004 Paris-Roubaix and can hang with almost anyone in the mountains for such a big guy. And how about the recent 2006 Winter Olympics with cross country skier Magnus Moan of Norway?
And can anyone dismiss Magnus Ver Magnusson - World's Strongest Man - from Iceland?

Finally, there is the Storm-Force superhero Magnus who is an anti-terrorist specialist with an exo-skeleton. Maybe George W. Bush needs a few good Magni to keep us all safe from terror...I don't think we can go wrong with such a strong name for our little guy. A strong name and the many strong prayers to a mighty God are greater than all athletes and superheroes combined.
